We all feel comfortable in the things we do that we fully understand and bring joy to our lives. But sometimes we need to step outside of our comfort to help us grow as individuals and even as professionals. Over the past three years as educators, every one of us has stepped out of our comfort zone to help our students continue to grow and learn during the pandemic. As you now know, stepping out of your comfort zone has improved all of our skills as educators and overall professionals. We now have new skills and tools that we are able to use that three years ago, none of us probably would have imagined.
This past weekend I was able to see these phenomena in my own family through my daughter. She is a very shy child but always willing to help a friend in need. She is comfortable doing this and feels at ease when she is able to help out, while not gaining the accolades that can sometimes come with this. Amazingly, she stepped out of her comfort zone and was part of the homecoming court at her school. She walked in front of over 2000 students to show that she deserved this opportunity to be recognized. Not to take away from my other child, my son was also given accolades to be a leader of his hockey team. He is not shy like my daughter, but being given the leadership role to step into was something he was not completely comfortable with, but he stepped up and took on the role. So proud of both kids and I know they will grow from these experiences. This being said, each of you has the opportunity this week to step out of your comfort zone to grow as a teacher and individual. Take the opportunity to challenge yourself and grow. Finally, help your students to do the same. Have a great week. Quote: “It’s only after you stepped out of your comfort zone that you begin to change, grow, and transform” - Roy T.
