This week’s theme is “Selfless.” As educators, we are given the task to mold and develop our students into productive members of society. We create effective lessons, prepare special plans, and do as much and even more than humanly possible to provide an environment of learning and growth. Even after all of the things we provide in the classroom setting, we offer time and tools for our students outside of the classroom. Education is not only the basics of curriculum, it is the overall experience we provide our students during their 4 years at ACHS.
This being said, each of us has developed a schedule, sometimes very fluid, that is more than our specific classes during the school day. We offer tutoring during our lunch and prep periods. Reach out to other colleagues for assistance and guidance. Modify lessons to meet the needs of each individual student. Along with so many more thoughts, ideas, and strategies that we use to meet the needs of every student. The most important thing is, we care for the well-being and growth of each and every student. It is known, that all of these things are great for our students, but the time and effort have to come from somewhere. Often times that somewhere is from a teacher’s own personal time. Whether it is meeting your spouse out for dinner vs. going home and picking them up to go out. Rushing straight from school to enjoy your kids’ sporting event or activity. Or even missing out on a night on the town to help a student with that one math problem. We have all made selfless sacrifices for our students. So as we enter into the month of February, know that your selfless acts are not going unnoticed and once you see the joy in the eyes of your students as they accomplish that next goal, take time to breathe and understand that it is all worth it. Here’s to another great week and know your selfless acts are worth it to those who receive your efforts.
