This week’s theme is “Finish.” What a wild ride we have had this school year. In August we returned to our school with so much unknown facing us. Would we ever see a student at a desk? How will I engage my students remotely? Will I get to coach my athletes? Finally, will I be able to see my colleagues in the hallways?
Well, we did all of these things and now we are within 3 days from the Finish line. Often we think of this as the end, but this is not the end, it is just the finish to another challenge that we have overcome. Just like our Seniors did earlier this month, they finished their high school careers, but are now ready to take on another challenge. Or even more importantly, our retirees are ready to finish their educational careers and are now preparing for their next challenge. The Finish is just one moment, but it’s the journey to the finish that makes all the memories. Think about everything that you have accomplished over the past year and even over your lifetime. You have finished projects, lessons, and your education. As you have noticed, the Finish is not the end, it’s the accomplishment point to move onto the next challenge. Be prepared to Finish, but be sure to reflect on all the time and memories that were made along the way. Now that you are all emotional, I want to say Thank You to everyone who read these and was willing to share thoughts and ideas. This will be the final edition for the spring. So as I reach for the Finish line, I have enjoyed having the opportunity to share some thoughts and ideas with all of you. Have a great final 3 days of the semester, but more importantly, Finish strong and then take some well-deserved time to relax and reenergize over the summer. Whether you are enjoying time with your family and friends, taking on new challenges, or just sitting back and relaxing, enjoy the time away and I look forward to sharing more thoughts and ideas when we return for the next RACE that we will finish in the Fall. This week I challenge you to think about how you will finish this challenge? Quote: “If you're brave enough to start, you're strong enough to finish.” - Gary Ryan Blair Goal: Finish Strong. Reflection: Did you start to write Your Story? Video: “Can Time Be Wasted” - TedTalk by Alexander Leitner. He is an animation designer and discusses all the time it takes to create a short film and all the time for such a “small project” is not wasted time. Article: “If I Could Handle This, I Can Handle Anything” - By Emily Tate from EdSurge.com. This article is from last August and reflected on the thoughts of 9 First Year Teachers. Some of you are finishing your first year, but for all of us, this was like our first year all over again. Book: “The Closer” - by Mariano Rivera. This is the autobiography about one of baseball’s greatest closers. His journey through life and how he learned to Finish and then prepare for the next challenge. I hope you find something here you can use this week.
