This week’s theme is “Determination.” Each week it is important to focus on improving your skills, your goals, and ultimately your overall well-being. Keeping this in mind, we are given choices and obstacles to overcome that can derail us from this. This being stated, it is not what obstacles we face, but what we do to overcome these and continue to move forward. Our determination to improve and overcome is what gets us through and makes us better. This weekend I had this topic in mind and just like other topics I have chosen, something hits me and shows that this is the topic to share. As I was walking to the car after watching my son’s first baseball games of the spring, I walked past a truck in the parking lot with the word “Determination” written on the bug shield. At this point, I knew this is the topic to share.
Determination is not just something we possess, but it has been seen in so many of the students we work with. As we get ready to celebrate our Seniors in the next few weeks and send them onto their next challenges, be proud that they have shown great determination to overcome all the challenges and obstacles that have been presented to them, especially over the past 14 months. Not only have our Seniors shown determination, but so has every member of our school community. I have shared ideas about setting goals, but goals are only a guide, people need to be determined to meet and achieve their goals to find success and happiness. So as you set your goals and prepare your lessons for the week and the rest of the school year, be determined to achieve these goals. Have a great week and be determined to succeed. Quote: “To be a teacher takes courage, determination and a whole lot of patience” - Pink Tulip Creations Goal: Be determined to achieve your goals. Reflection: How many times did you say “Thank You” last week? Video: The 100,000 Student Classroom - Peter Norvig from TedTalks. He talks about his determination to create a class that anyone could access. He discusses how he was determined to make it work. Article: Determination and Perseverance: Keys to Fulfillment - From ib-em.com. This article talks about how success is related to our experiences and the way we react to these experiences. Book: Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance - By Angela Duckworth. This book talks about how achievement is not talent but a special blend of passion and persistence she calls “grit”. I hope you find something here you can use this week.
