This week’s theme is “Luck.” This past week we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day. Throughout the week and even during the day, Luck is referenced as a thought or even action. Many people wear green to commemorate the day and the idea of having Luck in their lives. But for me being able to celebrate the Luck of St. Patrick’s day took on a new meaning this year.
As many of you may know, I am a diabetic and have been taking on this disease for almost 20 years now. This past week I faced my most severe challenge since being diagnosed with this disease. What started out as a normal Sunday with my family, ended up with a visit to the ER. Once I returned home from the emergency, I was able to reflect on what had happened and realized how Lucky I am. The love of my family helped me through the situation and being lucky to have capable emergency responders to control the situation and eventually help me to recover. So when I woke up last Thursday and was able to wear my green shirt for Luck, it took on a whole new meaning. Luck means something different to every person, but it is not just something that happens out of our control. We often make our own Luck. I am Lucky to have the life and career that I have. It is not just Lucky for me, it took hard work and determination to surround myself with my friends and family. Taking time to work on my skills as a parent, husband, athlete, teacher, and overall person. Just like each and every one of you does to create your own Luck. Yes, sometimes you may feel like you are Lucky, but the Luck you create is because of your hard work and dedication to making yourself and your life better. So as you go through this week up to Spring Break, create some Luck, but know that the hard work you put in will make it even more enjoyable.
